Robert Lindsey-Nassif’s Opal is based on the magical and mysterious diary of seven-year-old Opal Whiteley — an aristocratic princess who was orphaned in a shipwreck and placed in a rugged Oregon lumber camp. There she wrote her enchanting and moving journal about her first year in a strange new world.

Opal premiered off-Broadway, winning the Richard Rodgers and AT&T Awards. The New York Times wrote, “This splendid musical draws one into a place of magical transformations. It is a rare achievement. It is a rare achievement.”

“Bravo! I’d gladly watch this musical gem again” ~ New York Voice

“A mesmerizing musical gem … brimming with ideas and overflowing with heart” ~ Weekend Plus

The Legion Arts production is a Midwest premier of a newly revised version of the show.

Nassif’s Broadway and off-Broadway works include Flight of the Lawnchair Man andHollywood Arms. His works have received the Outer Circle Critics Award and the Los Angeles Drama Critics nomination for Best Score.
